I didn’t invent this. I saw it done well.
I was still in the planning stages when a photographer named Dennis Kwan brought me in to help run printing at his 888 Portrait Experience at Nemacolin. Roughly two hundred people, and a production I had no frame of reference for: Neil Patrick Harris came through for a portrait, Michael Bublé opened with a twelve-piece band, and around midnight the surprise guest turned out to be Lady Gaga.
I was running prints for most of it and drove home not long after Gaga finished, because I was completely spent. But I’d spent the night watching a crew do the thing I’d been sketching out, at a level I hadn’t imagined for it. That was the push. I still shoot for Dennis when he needs me.
